2. Ergonomics and operator exposure
Next, look at what the solution does to the work itself:
- Does it remove or significantly reduce heavy lifting, carrying, and reaching above shoulder height?
- Does it allow operators to work in upright, neutral postures most of the time?
- Does it reduce visible dust and strong odours at operator height when ingredients are added or transferred?

Finally, assess how the solution behaves over time:

- Are cleaning steps clearly defined and repeatable across shifts, or do they rely on the most experienced people being on duty?
A good solution will often shorten cleaning windows and make outcomes more consistent, which in turn lets QA release product with fewer extra checks.
What decision‑grade evidence looks like in food
When you collect references and trial data, focus on:
- Documented reduction in manual lifting and awkward postures at key stations.
- Measured dust levels or exposure data before and after installation where available.
- Cleaning time and re‑clean frequency for comparable products.
- Allergen or flavour carry‑over results between defined product families.
If a vendor cannot provide concrete examples in at least some of these areas, treat their proposal as unproven for your duty.
