The business case for Piab's sintered filter: traceability, compliance and control

The business case for upgrading to Piab's sintered filter

"We ran hundreds of tests, but we couldn't simulate a breakage." That's the line from our film, but robustness is only part of the story. For operations and procurement, the real questions are what a filter does for control, compliance and stable production, and how much effort it takes to switch. Here's how the sintered filter answers each one.

1. Traceability you can prove

Every sintered filter has an integrated NFC chip. Tap it with a phone to open the product page for that exact filter variant. With a third-party NFC app, your team can also read the item number and manufacturing date, and write its own information to the chip, such as the material that was conveyed. Reorders lead straight to the right part, audits get a record that sits on the part itself, and spare-part knowledge no longer depends on one or two people. 2. A material you can stand behind

The filter is a sintered polyethylene unibody. It is PFAS-free, food and pharma safe, compliant with EU and US food contact rules, and designed to be recycled. It can also be sterilized with steam at up to 121 °C, which opens it up to hygienic and pharmaceutical applications where sterilization is required. Piab is ISO 14001 certified and complies with RoHS and REACH. That gives you clear answers when customers ask about PFAS, supports your sustainability reporting, and prepares your line for the coming EU PFAS restriction. 3. Stable production

The filter delivers consistent filtration performance and flow, and captures particles down to 0.5 µm. Its twisted, compact geometry gives more filtration area in the same footprint, and the construction has high resistance to process conditions, with no springs or loose parts.

4. Built for the factory floor

Accidents happen in production: parts get dropped or damaged. The sintered unibody is designed to take it. Watch the film to see us try to break it.

Building your business case Use this table with your team to put figures on what matters most for your plant:

Business goal What to measure today How the sintered filter supports it
Control over spare parts Time spent identifying parts; wrong or delayed orders per year NFC chip with variant, item number, manufacturing date and your own notes
Compliance Time spent answering PFAS and material questions; audit preparation PFAS-free, EU and US food contact compliant, sterilizable for hygienic applications, documented materials
Sustainability targets Share of spare parts that are PFAS-free and recyclable PFAS-free polyethylene, recyclable design, ISO 14001 manufacturer
Stable production Unplanned stops linked to filtration performance Consistent filtration and flow, more filtration area, high resistance to process conditions

Ask your Piab contact to go through the table with you using your own figures.

Switching without a project

The sintered filter fits existing Piab vacuum conveyors without changes to the setup: no engineering work and no new installation. Start with one line, see how it works in your process, then roll out. To compare it with other filter types for your application, see our guide to choosing the right vacuum conveyor filter.
