Achieving Top Performance in Carton Production with piGRIP® FLIW and piPUMP: A Successful Collaboration with b-automated

The company Yamaton Paper GmbH, a leader in the processing of paper honeycomb, faced the challenge of optimizing its production processes while ensuring ecological sustainability. The production of stable yet lightweight boards required an innovative solution to increase efficiency and minimize resource consumption. Before the implementation of Piab solutions, the process was more labor-intensive and required several workers, which limited resource planning. Additionally, there was a need to process sensitive materials such as recycled paper at high speed without compromising quality.
To tackle these challenges, the company worked closely with b-automated. The integrator played a central role in implementing Piab vacuum technology, ensuring optimal integration into the existing production line.
A robot equipped with a vacuum gripper, comprising 70 foam suction cups from the piGRIP® FLIW series, along with 10 piPUMPs, was installed at the end of the production line. These advanced components enabled efficient palletizing of boards, regardless of the variability in output formats. The piGRIP® FLIW foam suction cups are specifically designed for handling open-pored and delicate materials, while the piPUMP is known for its high energy efficiency and quick response times.
By introducing Piab solutions, supported by b-automated, the company significantly reduced the need for labor and increased production capacity. Automation led to a marked improvement in efficiency, with pick-and-place times of less than 10 seconds. The flexibility and adaptability of Piab products offered a future-proof solution for the company's complex requirements. The ability to increase production speed to up to 24 m/min without compromising quality was a decisive advantage.
The collaboration with Piab and b-automated was rated extremely positively by the company. Both parties supported the project from the initiation phase with suitable samples and assisted in conducting trials at the application center. This close collaboration led to the development of a process-secure solution that exceeded customer expectations. A company representative noted: "The support and expertise of Piab and b-automated were crucial to the success of our project. Their products exceeded our expectations in terms of efficiency and adaptability."
The implementation of Piab vacuum technology, particularly the piGRIP® FLIW foam suction cups and the piPUMP, not only improved the efficiency and sustainability of production processes but also strengthened the company's confidence in the performance and quality of Piab products. The satisfied customer concluded: "Thanks to Piab and b-automated, we were able to not only meet but exceed our production goals. Their solutions are an integral part of our strategy for process optimization.
