      Patented puffs of air prevent self-adhesion

      Added control feature in vacuum ejector piCOMPACT®23 puts a stop to annoying, unwanted self-adhesion.

      Taby, Sweden – Introducing a new control feature as an optional added extra in its premium all-in-one vacuum ejector platform piCOMPACT®23, Piab is offering customers a solution to the problem of self-adhesion. The patented Self Adhesion Control (SAC) feature is one of a number of optional features recently added to piCOMPACT®23.

      An irritating and common problem affecting both robots and manual lifting equipment, especially during the initial positioning of suction cups, self-adhesion increases the risk of objects such as sheets of glass or metal being accidentally dropped, potentially causing catastrophic damage to products or personal injury to operating staff.

      ”Vacuum can build up in suction cups when these are compressed by the weight of a lifting device, even prior to the ejector being switched on. For instance, this might happen when the cups on ergonomic lifting aids are being positioned on an object,” explains Joseph Karbassi, Vice President of Piab's Automation Division.

      Piab's unique SAC feature cleverly recognises and eliminates any vacuum created in suction cups when piCOMPACT®23 is not engaged. Short puffs of air are automatically released to prevent any such unwanted vacuum that, if left intact, could result in self-adhesion to objects.

      ”The option to include self-adhesion control in ejector systems enables our customers to ensure that these always operate both smoothly and safely. The SAC feature is unique to piCOMPACT®23 and is one of a set of functions that promises the best possible performance in any application,” states Josef Karbassi.

      piCOMPACT®23 is a stackable all-in-one ejector platform; up to four units can share the same manifold and pneumatic connections, such as a common feed pressure and exhaust. A split unit design, separating the ejector from the control unit, offers added flexibility, particularly where space is limited or for minimising the weight carried by robot arms.
