Adding several new models to their friction suction cup family, Piab is meeting industry demands.
Taby, Sweden – Piab is extending the DURAFLEX® family of friction suction cups in a move aimed at helping manufacturers handle ever smaller sheet metal parts. Adding several new cup sizes and different connectors to an already extensive programme of friction cups, Piab is responding to the latest industrial trends. One such trend sees, for instance, car manufacturers automating more and more of their production, including the manufacture and assembly of increasingly small parts.
Meeting these emerging market requirements, Piab's new offering includes several small oval and round suction cups that provide an excellent grip on small and potentially oily automotive parts. The dedicated cups enable safe sheet metal handling and maximum hold on parts with a concave or convex surface.
The superior grip of the DURAFLEX® friction cups enables an increased number of strokes per minute in stamping, cutting, bending and punching machines, making for more cost-effective and productive press shops.
Combining the properties of polyurethane with those of rubber, Piab's friction cups display exceptional elastic memory and press oil resistance, enabling them to keep their shape and remain in good working order. In addition, the polyurethane cups do not degrade as quickly as competing cups made of rubber materials such as Nitrile-Butadiene Rubber (NBR) compounds.
The cups are also designed to handle thin metal sheets (of thickness down to 0.65mm) without denting. Improved friction patterns resembling those used on winter tyres include a rough cleat surface with sharp cleat edges and channels that secure an exceptional grip on oily surfaces. This results in friction cups that have between 3 and 4 times better grip (shear/friction force) on an oily surface than conventional cups with no friction pattern.
Established in 1951, Piab designs innovative vacuum solutions that improve the energy-efficiency, productivity, and working environments of vacuum users around the world. As a reliable partner to many of the world's largest manufacturers, Piab develops and manufactures a complete line of vacuum pumps, vacuum accessories, vacuum conveyors and suction cups for a variety of automated material handling and factory automation processes. Piab utilizes COAX®, a completely new dimension in vacuum technology, in many of its original products and solutions. COAX® cartridges are smaller, more energy efficient and more reliable than conventional ejectors, and can be integrated directly into machinery. This allows for the design of a flexible, modular vacuum system. In 2016, Piab completed two strategically important acquisitions, Kenos and Vaculex. Piab is a worldwide organization with subsidiaries and distributors in almost 70 countries. Its headquarters are in Sweden.
