New secondary air filter unit offers extra protection in detergent manufacturing plants.
Taby, Sweden – Ensuring a safe workplace environment for staff working in the detergent manufacturing industry, Piab is introducing new, ultra-fine seecondary air filter units for use with the company's vacuum conveying equipment. Offered as standard accessories, the sterile filters are of the ultra-fine filtration class – U15-17, so called Ultra Low Penetration Air (ULPA) filters.
Capable of a filtration efficiency down to 99.9999 per cent, the new filter units offer an improved filtration performance compared with the High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters often used today. Designed to fit the piFLOW®p and piFLOW®t range of Piab's compressed air driven vacuum conveyors, the filters meet the demands of producers of manufacturing equipment as well as cleaning products and detergents. The ultra-fine filtration ensures that the exhaust air is completely clean, eliminating any health risks associated with the inhalation of enzymes or other harmful ingredients.
”The filter units are designed to be fitted between the pump and the conveyor body. They are easy to fit and to remove for replacement. However, if primary filters are correctly fitted, dimensioned and maintained, these secondary filters should last indefinitely and never need to be replaced,” says Tomas Dahl, Strategic Sales OEM, Piab's Materials Handling Division.
Vacuum conveying is recommended as best practice for the conveying process for several of the production steps in detergent manufacturing by the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance products (AISE) and the American Cleaning Institute (AIC). It is the preferred option for the conveying of materials such as detergent ingredients, including enzymes or mixed powders containing enzymes. These materials are typically fed into mixers and blenders, tablet presses, and packaging machines. Piab's vacuum conveyors meet the producers' requirements regarding contained conveying under negative pressure, gentle dense phase conveying, and can now provide the optional ULPA filtration to further ensure complete removal of traces of enzymes and other harmful materials from the exhaust air.
