Explosion safety extended to include Piab's new dedicated tablet conveyor piFLOW®t.
Taby, Sweden – Dedicated not only to the safe conveying of delicate tablets, but also to the most rigorous explosion safety standards, Piab's state-of-the-art vacuum conveyor piFLOW®t is now available in an ATEX Dust and Gas approved design.
”Our easy-to-use product configurator enables customers to choose a conveyor configuration that is certified according to the ATEX directive for both dust and gas, and one that is customised to meet the specific requirements of a particular application,” says Jarno Tahvanainen, Vice President of Piab's Material Handling division.
ATEX is the European Union directive that regulates what equipment and machinery is allowed to operate in an environment with a potentially explosive atmosphere. Mixtures of dust or gas and oxygen may cause serious industrial accidents if exposed to a spark from, for instance, static electricity. Hence, to minimise the risk of such dust or gas explosions, equipment operating in potentially explosive environments has to be carefully designed.
In Piab's ATEX certified conveyors, all plastic or rubber parts, including the filters and seals used between sheet metal parts, are made of dissipative (antistatic) materials. All complete modules or units are also fitted with seals of synthetic rubber (nitrile butadiene rubber, NBR) with antistatic properties.
Piab offers an extensive range of ATEX certified units that can be combined to form some 300 different configuration solutions for complete conveyors that perfectly matches the customer's particular requirements. Effective from April 20, 2016, the new ATEX directive (EU/2014/34) has no implications for Piab's hardware, but all product documentation, instructions, and declarations of conformity are being updated to refer to the new directive instead of the old one.
Established in 1951, Piab designs innovative vacuum solutions that improve the energy-efficiency, productivity, and working environments of vacuum users around the world. As a reliable partner to many of the world's largest manufacturers, Piab develops and manufactures a complete line of vacuum pumps, vacuum accessories, vacuum conveyors and suction cups for a variety of automated material handling and factory automation processes. Piab utilizes COAX®, a completely new dimension in vacuum technology, in many of its original products and solutions. COAX® cartridges are smaller, more energy efficient and more reliable than conventional ejectors, and can be integrated directly into machinery. This allows for the design of a flexible, modular vacuum system. Piab is a worldwide organization with subsidiaries and distributors in almost 70 countries. Its headquarters are in Sweden.
