Foam padded Kenos™ vacuum grippers handle wood

Piab’s Kenos® gripper has tight grip on wood

Date 3/15/2017

Foam padded Kenos® vacuum grippers handle wood and timber safely and securely.

Taby, Sweden – Kenos® vacuum grippers from Piab offer features specially developed for the timber and wood industry. Available in two models, the vacuum grippers use a technical foam to ensure a tight fitting and firm grip on everything from rugged timber to delicate wood furniture parts.

Kenos® Heavy Vacuum Gripper (KHVG) is the tougher of the two - designed to handle heavy duty timber products for the forestry industry and saw mills. Fitted with an extra thick layer of foam padding, it has a firm grip on complete layers of sawn timber, heavy planking and other building materials as well as un-processed timber. The foam molds itself around grooves, ensuring an excellent firm grip even on rough and uneven surfaces.

Kenos® Vacuum Gripper (KVG) offers a gentler touch more suitable for handling, for instance, MDF or laminated furniture parts. In this gripper, the foam doesn't just hold the wood products firmly in place, it also acts as a protective layer. The KVG model is often used with Piab's highly efficient COAX® ejectors.

"The heavy duty KHVG model, on the other hand, is usually used with side-channel blowers connected to an external vacuum generator. That way, the vacuum gripper can operate safely and unhindered in the dustiest of saw mills," says Massimo Brusoni, business development manager at Piab's Kenos™ centre in Padua, Italy.

The foam padded gripper surface can be tailored according to customer specifications in terms of both dimensions and characteristics, allowing for grippers that perfectly fit either very heavy, very long or awkwardly shaped pieces of wood, and are suitable for specific environments or applications.

"Our aim is always to offer our customers the very best gripping solution for the automatic handling of wood products in any situation," says Brusoni.
