Piab's food and pharma conveyors fit the bills of both EC No 1935/2004 and FDA.
Taby, Sweden – Piab's popular and high quality range of piFLOW® vacuum conveyors for the food and pharmaceutical industries – piFLOW®f, piFLOW®p and piFLOW®t, the recently introduced dedicated tablet conveyor, – all comply with the latest and most stringent standards regulating materials that come into contact with food. All plastic and rubber components used in the conveyors are made of materials that fulfil the most demanding requirements to date.
Equipment that complies with the safety regulations for materials that come into contact with food or anything ingested by humans, for instance medicines, is vital for the food and pharma industry. The safety requirements place particular demands on the plastic and rubber compounds used in seals, fittings, filters and other parts of the equipment used for the manufacture or processing of food or pharmaceuticals.
”In order to ensure compliance we are using rubber qualities that meet the regulations in Germany, which are the most precise ones and therefore represent the best standard for rubber,” explains Fredrik Thuman, Development Manager of Piab's Materials Handling Division.
Recommendations by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have previously often been cited by equipment manufacturers in relation to materials of ”food grade” standard. However, in many respects the FDA's rules have been superseded by European legislation. The EU framework regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 applies to all food contact materials and national provisions have been adopted by the member states, some more detailed and precise than others, such as in the case of Germany and rubber.
Established in 1951, Piab designs innovative vacuum solutions that improve the energy-efficiency, productivity, and working environments of vacuum users around the world. As a reliable partner to many of the world's largest manufacturers, Piab develops and manufactures a complete line of vacuum pumps, vacuum accessories, vacuum conveyors and suction cups for a variety of automated material handling and factory automation processes. Piab utilizes COAX®, a completely new dimension in vacuum technology, in many of its original products and solutions. COAX® cartridges are smaller, more energy efficient and more reliable than conventional ejectors, and can be integrated directly into machinery. This allows for the design of a flexible, modular vacuum system. Piab is a worldwide organization with subsidiaries and distributors in almost 70 countries. Its headquarters are in Sweden.
