Acquisition strengthens mechanical gripping

Date 11/2/2017

Piab makes strategic entry into mechanical gripping segment by acquiring SAS Automation.

Taby, Sweden – Piab is proud to announce the acquisition of US-based SAS Automation, a leading developer and manufacturer of mechanical grippers and robotic end-of-arm tooling systems. By complementing Piab’s existing product offering, the addition of SAS Automation takes Piab a step closer to becoming a leading one-stop gripper shop.

Facing demands for higher productivity, an increasing number of manufacturing sectors are investing in automation and robotics in order to turn their operations into smart factories. Used within industries ranging primarily packaging, automotive, food and pharmaceuticals, Piab’s line-critical products serve this trend across multiple markets. The importance of cost-efficiency and a good working-environment within these industries also underpins Piab’s strong growth.

“The acquisition of SAS Automation perfectly fits our ambitious plan to strengthen Piab’s position through both organic growth and acquisition of related industry leaders, which has so far seen the addition of Kenos® and Vaculex. By offering an expanded product portfolio through our existing sales network, we anticipate clear revenue synergies, and enables us to serve our customers as a single supplier of both vacuum-based and mechanical gripping technology,” comments Piab’s CEO Anders Lindqvist.

With more than 50 percent of sales generated from patented products, Piab enjoys a technology leadership with innovative, high quality and mission-critical products in an environment where customers continuously require new technology solutions. Recent launches include a new vacuum conveyor dedicated to fragile products, food contact suction cups, and the new piCOMPACT® all-in-one vacuum ejector that offers real-time access to condition data through IO-Link, enabling predictive maintenance and the key to interoperability & information transparency, and demonstrating Piab’s strong commitment to Industry 4.0. Looking ahead, Piab has a well-stocked product pipeline with new launches across all product segments to meet future needs.

About Piab
